The development of MEDITECH began in 2017, initiated by Edwin Kipruto, who was then an intern at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. During his time at the hospital, he observed significant challenges in the existing hospital management system, known as FANSoft. The system was slow, outdated, and built using older Java technologies such as AWT, which limited efficiency and performance in critical healthcare operations.Motivated by these challenges, Edwin made the decision to design and engineer a completely new system. His goal was to build a fast, modern, and reliable healthcare platform tailored specifically for local hospitals in Kenya and similar environments. This marked the beginning of the MEDITECH journey.
Early Development and Pilot Phase
In 2021, MEDITECH was officially piloted at Uasin Gishu County Hospital, starting with the Health Records Department. The system demonstrated high speed, improved accuracy, and ease of use compared to existing solutions. The pilot was a major success and proved that a locally developed system could effectively meet hospital needs.
